Position Summary:
The Special Projects Technician is responsible for performing specialized cleaning, floor care, light maintenance, and facility service duties across assigned locations. This position primarily focuses on hard-surface floor care, including stripping and waxing, but also performs carpet cleaning, high dusting, flood and spill response, and other specialty cleaning projects as needed.
When specialized projects are not scheduled, the Special Projects Technician supports daily operations by assisting with staffing needs, filling in for absent Team Members, performing general cleaning, and assisting with light maintenance and equipment repairs. This role is essential in maintaining consistent service levels and ensuring customer expectations are met across all assigned locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform specialized hard-surface floor care, including stripping, scrubbing, refinishing, and waxing floors.
Perform carpet cleaning and other specialty floor-care services.
Complete high dusting and other periodic specialty cleaning projects.
Respond to flood spills, water incidents, and other emergency cleaning needs as directed.
Perform general cleaning duties when not assigned to a special project.
Fill in at assigned locations when Team Members are absent or when staffing levels require additional support to ensure service continues without interruption.
Assist with light maintenance and basic repairs of cleaning equipment, tools, and other facility-related equipment.
Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment and identify when additional repair or service is needed.
Help keep the company shop, equipment areas, storage areas, and workspaces clean, organized, and safe.
Properly operate, maintain, clean, and store floor-care machines, cleaning equipment, and supplies.
Help maintain equipment in good working condition through routine cleaning, inspection, and basic upkeep.
Follow established cleaning procedures, safety guidelines, and proper equipment and chemical-use practices.
Adjust daily work activities and priorities based on floor-care projects, specialty cleaning needs, emergency situations, and staffing requirements.
Work collaboratively with Managers and Team Members to ensure locations remain properly staffed and serviced.
Maintain a professional, positive, and helpful attitude when interacting with customers, Managers, and Team Members.
Build and maintain strong customer relationships through reliable service, communication, and professionalism.
Communicate project status, equipment concerns, staffing needs, supply needs, and other operational issues to the appropriate Manager.
Perform other cleaning, maintenance, and facility-service duties as assigned.
Previous commercial cleaning, floor-care, or facility-service experience preferred.
Basic mechanical or maintenance skills preferred.
Ability to safely operate and maintain floor-care equipment and other cleaning equipment.
Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and light repairs on equipment.
Ability to perform physically demanding duties, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and moving equipment.
Scheduling
The Special Projects Technician’s schedule will vary based on the type, location, and timing of assigned projects, as well as staffing needs. Most specialty floor-care and project work is performed during evening hours, generally after 5:00 p.m. However, the Technician may be scheduled during other hours when project requirements, customer needs, emergencies, or staffing needs require it.
When there are no scheduled special projects, the Technician may be assigned to support locations experiencing staffing shortages or other operational needs. Flexibility in scheduling, work locations, and job assignments is an important part of this position.
Qualifications and Expectations
Previous commercial cleaning, floor-care, or facility-service experience preferred.
Basic mechanical or maintenance skills preferred.
Ability to safely operate and maintain floor-care equipment and other cleaning equipment.
Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and light repairs on equipment.
Ability to perform physically demanding duties, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and moving equipment.
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
